A Quiet Day

It’s been quiet. Laid back. Maybe because hubby did all the cooking and the kids were happy doing their own thing. I did some art, did the video for mindful watercolour group on FB but have to wait until tomorrow to upload because my vimeo hasn’t enough space…If anyone knows the lowest settings I can use for videos (I’m using iMovie) for resolution and quality and it still be good please let me know!

I sorted out an impromptu online switch play date for 2 of the kiddos with a friend which they enjoyed greatly. Spent time scrolling, looking at comparisons for watercolour grounds, mediums, paints and generally learning some new stuff. I want to see if I can find a process where I can layer with watercolour (and other watery stuff like neocolours, inktense, watercolour crayons, gouache, liquid watercolours maybe indian ink too) in the way I can with gesso and acrylics and all that stuff. Use stencils and collage (which I can do but it sometimes damages the paper) but still be able to use watercolours and have them play like watercolours on top of it all.

I am liking this quote by mark twain, maybe for the girls (lesson from Effy Wild’s BoD with Sal Scheibe)

“What is joy without sorrow? What is success without failure? What is a win without a loss? What is health without illness? You have to experience each if you are to appreciate the other. There is always going to be suffering. It’s how you look at your suffering, how you deal with it, that will define you.”

This poem is about my husband’s hands. I’ve loved them since we were 15….which is a good long while. Sometimes, it has felt like people came and then left, sometimes it felt like abandonment, he has always stayed. He is the one person on the planet who knows me fully. All of me. And he stays.

Strong and supple
Hard and soft
Fierce and protective
Loving and loved
Smooth and calloused
Hot and teasing
Still and mesmerizing
Careful and delicate
I fell in love with your hands as they warmed mine
As they held me
Loved me
Helped me
Held our children
Cherished each tiny new life
Teased me
Hurt me
Soothed me
Tickled me
Kept me
