What Is Grounding?

Grounding is a term that has recently become popular in the self-care and mindfulness community. It is a practice that helps to bring our awareness back to the present moment, and to connect with the energy of the earth. Grounding is an important part of many different spiritual and meditative practices. It helps to create a sense of balance and inner peace, and to reduce stress and anxiety.

Grounding can be especially beneficial for those who are into painting watercolors. Painting can be a way to express your emotions and connect with yourself, however it can also be an overwhelming and intense experience. Grounding can help you to stay in the present moment and to focus on the task at hand. It can help you to relax and to stay centered and connected to the earth’s energy.

There are many different ways to ground yourself. One way is to use mindfulness techniques, such as focusing on your breath or using active meditation. Another way is to use a body scan. This is a practice where you focus your attention on each part of your body, starting at the feet and slowly moving up. This helps to bring your awareness back to the present moment and to relax any areas of tension in your body.

Another way to ground yourself is to connect to the energy of the earth. This can be done by visualizing yourself connecting to the earth, or by using crystals such as hematite or smoky quartz. Both of these crystals can help to connect you to the earth’s energy.

When I have a little time, or feel very busy headed, I like to do a body scan before I start creating. It is a great tool and one I find helps me. When I have longer, I like to do a full grounding meditation with a visualisation. This is a video of a breathing exercise, body scan and then a grounding visualisation. The images are from around where I live. This was originally created for my Patreons.

Grounding is an important part of any spiritual or meditative practice, and it can also be beneficial for those who practice painting watercolors. It can help you to connect with the creative process and be more mindful of the colours, textures, and movement of your painting. Grounding can also help to reduce stress and anxiety, allowing you to work on your painting without worrying about the outcome.

Taking time to create with watercolours and thus ground yourself and have time where you are mindful and present with creating each day can be a great way to improve your well-being and your watercolour skills. It is something that has become an intuitive, instinctive part of my creative process and one that is useful in lots of other parts of my life.
