What Is A Yet-i Moment?

If you’ve ever heard the term “Yet-i Moment,” you may be wondering what it means. A Yet-i Moment is when you add the word “yet” onto a statement to open up possibilities. An example of this would be “I can’t do this” turning into “I can’t do this yet.” This phrase helps to retrain your inner voice to be more supportive. Instead of thinking “I’m not good at this”, you can change your thought process to “I’m not good at this yet.”

When you add “yet” to a statement, you are also creating a choice. You can choose to invest the time and effort needed to become good at something or you can choose not to. You are no longer stuck in a story of “I’m no good at this” and instead you can choose to take the steps needed to become good at something or equally choose not to. The “Yet” opens up the possibility and the choice

Yetis are a great reminder to be on the lookout for Yet-i Moments. To identify when you are using negative language to describe yourself or a situation and to turn it around and instead focus on the possibilities. This ties in with mindfulness, non-judging and discernment. If you can learn to recognize and take advantage of Yet-i Moments, you can open yourself up to more possibilities and potential.

It is a really powerful, simple tool that begins with noticing your inner voice and when it is slipping into judgement. So, the next time you catch yourself saying something negative, be sure to ask yourself “Is this a Yet-i moment?”
